Last night at The Hotel Chelsea, I spent hours jamming on a beautifully weathered piano that Jimi Hendrix used to dance on.
With that in mind, I was thrilled to stumble on a news story about old pianos becoming new again.
The Pianodrome in Edinburgh, Scotland brings together musicians and volunteers to transform discarded pianos into hand-crafted amphitheaters, interactive artworks, and lovely furniture. The organization describes its goal as “A radical re-imagining of the piano in today’s throw away culture.”
I love this in so many ways (and judging by some of his lyrics, Jimi might have loved it, too). Noise #125 channels my admiration for Pianodrome’s guts and creativity—and the hope that new upcycling initiatives will grow from their efforts.
Wishing you peace,
Michael
