Noise #126: A temple consecrated atop a temple destroyed
A momentous Indian celebration highlights a foundation of conflict.
Yesterday, the government of India consecrated a giant new Hindu temple—on a site where, decades earlier, rioters demolished an historic mosque.
The event brought joy and fulfillment to many, fear and despair to many others. It slices deep to core struggles over India’s identity as a secular republic vs. a religious state, and how minorities are treated within.
Noise #126 is my musical reaction to the temple’s fraught genesis—and to the social/religious reckonings happening right now in India, the United States, and elsewhere.
Wishing you peace,
Michael
