Today, March 13, 2024 marks four years since the United States declared a state of emergency in response to Covid’s caustic spread from sea to shining sea.
“I went over 12 months without touching another human being. It was brutalizing. It scarred me pretty deeply.”
I hadn’t been aware of the anniversary until this morning, when The New York Times slapped me awake to the day’s significance.
“It just seems that there’s a lot of unhappiness and rage in the world right now. And I think a lot of that goes back to the lockdown.”
The headline felt surreal, the article sadly fascinating. It featured quotes from interviewees who continue to be harshly, indelibly touched by the pandemic.
“I have lost so much trust in others.”
I put together Noise #139 while keeping the article’s poignant testimonials in mind, imagining the lives and suffering behind them, trying to honor the hard-lived experiences and pain-forged resilience they signify.
“The pandemic is such a negative memory, but I have this bright spot of goodness from it.”
Thanks so much for being here. I hope this music can bring you even a brief moment of peace as you listen.
With love,
Michael
