Noise #161: The Surgeon General's social media warning
With teenagers' health in mind, Dr. Vivek Murthy writes a line in the sand.
Earlier today, the Surgeon General of the United States published an Opinion article in The New York Times arguing that social media platforms should carry warning labels.
Dr. Vivek Murthy makes a compelling case that the mental health risks of engaging with social media—particularly for teenagers—are so significant that they must be broadcast with blunt and unapologetic force.
I recorded Noise #161 thinking about the promise, power, and potential of social media, how it’s altered the DNA of so many aspects of global society in both constructive and corrosive ways. My music also channels curiosity about how tech firms, political leaders, and social media users themselves will react, now that Murthy has written his line in the sand.
I hope you enjoy listening:
Stay safe out there,
Michael
